The Story Behind the Banner
Tresa and I took a road trip two summers ago from Tacoma down to Branson, Missouri and back again.  On the trip down, in Wyoming, we were traveling south bound on I-25 through Casper and toward Cheyenne.  Wheatland is in between Casper and Cheyenne.  The banner photo was taken on this stretch of the road.

Somewhere north of Wheatland (where highway 18/20 meets the interstate - Orin exit) we stopped for gas.  And the tank would take only about three ounces of fuel.  I thought that maybe the station's gas pump was broken so I went in and talked to the attendant.  She agreed and so I moved to a different pump.  It took about one more ounce of fuel.

Life started to get serious.  Here we were a long way from anywhere and we needed to fill up.  It looked like the Honda had a problem with the gas tank.  I made an executive decision to keep moving south and so we stopped at Wheatland (ninety miles south) to try to fill up again.  The tank took a whopping three gallons!

Both of us were awake on this leg of the trip.  We had even stopped for ice cream that afternoon in order to get out and stretch our legs.  We travel well together and like to talk.  We also keep meticulous records of our trips.  Kind of a quirky little thing that we do.

And there was no mistaking that we had travelled 216 miles on a little less than three gallons of gas (averaging 73.6 mpg).   So what happened to us?  Did God somehow have a divine appointment that we had to keep on His schedule?

We kept looking for His divine appointment but we never did find out what it was.  When I look at these photos of Wyoming from that evening, I remember what we went through and I smile.  God does provide.  For whatever reason He is there for us.  We don't have to know what He has in mind for us.

I wanted some kind of banner for our prayer chain emails, to sort of set them off as something special.  So when I saw these photos I decided that this was what we needed.  I removed some telephone poles over on the right of the photo and superimposed the crosses on the hillside.  The cross should be on our visible horizon no matter where we look, don't you agree?

This had such a powerful impact on me as I developed the banner that I decided to re-work the website using this as a theme.

Route 66 - Through the Bible in a Year
This series began several weeks ago.  Having taught the series about three years ago Pastor Mark was getting anxious to dust off the material and start again.  Sort of like an old horse that knows it's feeding time in the evening, nothing stops him!  We have had a pretty good turn-out and the students are very interested in the class material.  What a blessing!  If you think that you might like to get involved, the classes are every Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  We work in twelve week "pods" and then take one week off.  Come on out and give it a try!

Cindy and Mike have asked for Prayer!
I married Mike and Cindy last summer at the Tacoma Country Club, it was a very sweet wedding. It seems that Cindy is 'with child' now and Mike sent along the following;

Pastor Mark,  Cindy was admitted to the hospital to prevent our little boy from becoming a second-term miscarriage. She is in the high risk pregnancy unit of one of the nation's best hospitals, Fairfax Inova. She will be there until the end of May.  Please remember us in your prayers.  Thank you.  Mike

Would you please keep Cindy and Mike in your prayers for some time to come?  Also, we are sending letters and cards to Cindy to help cheer her up and show our support.  If you want to get involved with this then please contact pastor Mark to get their mailing address.

Noah's Ark!
Vacation Bible School begins on Monday, July 28th and runs for five days.  This is a wonderful opportunity to work on a "short term mission" field and help out with the VBS.  If you are interested in teaching or otherwise helping out, please contact pastor Mark.  Also, contact the church office, or pastor Mark, to enroll your children in this year's VBS.
